THE FIRST WEEKS WITH TWINS

Two Babies Change the Rhythm of Everything

With twins, feeding, diapering, soothing, and settling often happen back-to-back—or at the same time. Even when both babies are doing beautifully, the pace of caring for two newborns around the clock can make meaningful rest difficult for parents.

Overnight support creates space for you to rest while an experienced RN helps care for both babies through the night.

INDIVIDUAL BABIES • ONE FAMILY RHYTHM

Supporting Two Babies Without Losing Sight of the Individual

Twins may share a birthday, but they don't necessarily share the same feeding patterns, temperament, or overnight needs. Our RNs care for each baby as an individual while helping your family find practical rhythms that make caring for two more manageable.

When appropriate for your babies and consistent with your family's preferences and healthcare guidance, your RN can help you think through feeding, soothing, and overnight routines that support both babies without expecting them to behave exactly the same.

Postpartum Network provides private, RN-led overnight newborn care for families with twins throughout Clarksville, Nashville, Franklin, and surrounding Middle Tennessee communities.

QUESTIONS FAMILIES WITH TWINS OFTEN ASK

Frequently Asked Questions

Caring for two newborns comes with unique questions. Here are a few things families often want to know about overnight support for twins.

Can one RN care for both twins overnight? In many situations, one experienced RN can provide overnight newborn care for both twins. Before care begins, we'll learn more about your babies, feeding plans, routines, and any individual needs so we can determine whether the requested support is appropriate for your family.

Can you help us get our twins on the same schedule? Our RNs can help families develop practical overnight rhythms while respecting each baby's individual feeding, sleep, and developmental needs. When appropriate, we can support routines that make caring for two babies more manageable, but we don't expect twins to have identical needs or schedules.

Can you support breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or combination feeding with twins? Yes. Our RNs can support your established feeding plan, whether your babies are breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or using a combination of both. Overnight care can also include bottle and pump-part preparation and cleaning as appropriate. When specialized lactation care is needed, we encourage families to work with an IBCLC or their healthcare provider.

What happens if both babies wake at the same time? Caring for twins often means responding to two babies whose needs overlap. Your RN uses experience, organization, and knowledge of each baby's routine to prioritize care safely and thoughtfully when both babies need attention.

How many nights of overnight care should we book for twins? Every family is different. Some families use overnight care several nights each week during the early newborn period, while others choose fewer nights for targeted rest and support. During your consultation, we'll discuss your goals, available support system, and anticipated needs.

When should we reserve overnight care for our twins? We recommend reaching out during pregnancy whenever possible. Because overnight availability is limited and twin delivery timing can be less predictable, planning ahead gives us the best opportunity to thoughtfully coordinate your requested support.
